In this workhop we'll learn how to form beautiful one of a kind beads from extruded, handmade, and impressed clay forms.  We'll be working with an extremely fine bodied beautiful porcelain clay.   Lots of wonderful work comes out of this workshop!. This is a 4 day workshop limited to 4 people per session.  If you have 3 other people who want to take the class please let me know and we'll see if we can work out a schedule that suits all of us. 

Workshop Schedule
Day 1 we'll form the beads
Day 2 electric fire bead (no attendance necessary)
Day 3 A day of glazing and raku firings
Day 4 More glazing and raku firings if needed

Underglaze Painting on Whiteware
12" Tile and Oversized Cappuccino Cup with Saucer or Dinner Plate

It is suggested to bring your favorite watercolor brush(s) for underglazing the smooth whiteware.  Not to worry if you don't have any as I have many!

Schedule:
Meet for coffee and introduction at Michele's studio at 9:30. After deciding on a design we'll begin work on tiles,etc
Day 2  Continue to paint in underglaze on oversized cappuchino cup and saucer,etc
Day 3 Electric firing
Day 4 Check out our work to see if it's ready for final commercial glaze firing
Day 5 Final glaze and electic fire

Painting with ceramic underglazes are very similar to painting with watercolors on expensive watercolor paper.The whiteware is smooth and absorbant allowing you to subtley (or not) build up an extraordinary
illumination.  Each student will be given an 8" square whiteware tile, an oversized cappuchino cup and saucer and/or a dinner plate will also be included.
  I do have some source materials of what professional artists do with underglazes to inspire your own personal iconography.

If you can't wait until you get home to make your necklaces, bracelets etc then bring your filler (glass,bone,copper etc) beads from home.  I supply toggle clasps, wire and will have great filler beads for sale.  Ebay is a great place to buy filler beads!
